President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's spouse Sajidha Mohamed met with outgoing president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's spouse and First Lady Fazna Ahmed on Monday, October 9.
President's Office via X confirmed that the First Lady met with president-elect's wife at Muliaage, the president's official residence.
The office said that the First Lady had congratulated Dr. Muizzu's election victory during the meeting.
While the outgoing first lady has met with the next first lady, this marks the first time a meeting between the spouses of the presidents following a presidential election has taken place.
Both women were active participants of their respective husbands' campaign trail ahead of the presidential election.
Dr. Muizzu emerged as the victor of the last presidential election with 54 percent of the votes, securing his position as the next president. President Solih, who was seeking re-election, received 46 percent of the votes.
The incumbent government and Dr. Muizzu's team are currently locked in efforts for administrative change during the transitional process.
President Solih had earlier assured his full cooperation to the president-elect amid the regime change.
