For a special news coverage held to celebrate their anniversary, PSM news has brought in acclaimed former news anchors and journalists to present news during various hours of the day.
Old faces have made a comeback on the news channel, Public Service Media (PSM)'s special coverage held yesterday on occasion of their anniversary. This coverage was focused around the presentation of news by renowned former news anchors during dedicated news hours of the day.
One of these distinguished anchors who made an appearance on yesterday's 20:00 hrs news was Ahmed Shakeeb (Shakeehbe). Shakeeb had shared that yesterday had marked the first time in 15 years since he had last presented news. The second comeback on the media channel yesterday was made by Mariyam Waheeda (Mary). Serving the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) as the President, Mariyam stated that she had presented the afternoon 14:00 hrs news and the 19:00 hrs English news after 13 long years.
In addition to presenting news at PSM, previously known as Television Maldives (TVM) at the time, Shakeeb and Mariyam were also involved in multiple popular shows broadcasted back then. The annual Ramadan show, 'Furusathuge Furusathu' which translates to 'Opportunity on opportunity' was one of the many shows they had starred in. The two figures are widely loved by the public and have become role models for news presentation today.
Within other figures who presented news during yesterday's news hours, former news anchor, Hassan Ziyaau is also included. He had served as the Communication Director of the Parliaments and presented news yesterday after a four year hiatus. Ziyaau had also filled senior roles at the TV station as well.
Yesterday's sports news was presented by the former acclaimed TV commentator and sports journalist, Abdulla Azmeen.
Esteemed journalist, Ali Sulaiman had also appeared on PSM to present news yesterday. Now the owner of his very own studio, Sulaiman had presented news yesterday after a 16 year hiatus.
