Villa College has revealed that it will be commencing select courses in the island of Villingili in the southern Gaafu Alif atoll.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the college and the Gaafu Alif atoll council on Tuesday evening to instigate the courses.

Speaking after signing the understanding, Villa College’s rector Dr Ahmed Anwar said the courses are due to commence in Villingili when Villa College’s next semester begins.

Interested students have until September 6 to apply for the courses.

Dr Anwar also highlighted how the atoll has produced many brilliant students, noting that their fondness of academia has always been persistent. Therefore, ensuring that students from the atoll has easier access to international courses will be a step forward for Villa College, he said.

Dr Anwar said that Villa College’s aim is to establish its colleges in every atoll in the Maldives.

The college already teaches select courses in 16 different parts of the country.

The president of Gaafu Alif atoll council Ahmed Fuad said that making Villa Colleges’ courses available from the island will be a great ease for many potential students.

He also assured that the council will assist in finding accommodation for students who come to Villingili from other nearby islands to pursue the courses.

According to Villa College, their current most popular courses are Business Management, and Sharia and Law. These courses will be available for the students in Villingili at the time the new semester commences. More courses will be introduced depending on the demand for broader range of subjects.

Villa College, which was established 10 years ago, has affiliations with United Kingdom’s University of West England (UWE). The college offers UWE’s international bachelor’s programmes and master's programmes.
