The fiscal strategy report has proposed a salary increase for civil servants.
Although this recommendation is included in the report prepared by the finance ministry, the pay hike will only be confirmed if these figures are incorporated into next year’s state budget.
According to information obtained by 'Mihaaru News,' the finance ministry's fiscal strategy report has allocated MVR 1 billion for salary increments.
Currently, the civil service employs 30,165 individuals.
Efforts to equalize government employees' salaries began in 2022.
So far, salaries for teachers, healthcare workers, police, and military personnel have increased. Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq stated in June that 46 percent of government institutions have undergone salary revisions.
This year’s budget includes MVR 12 billion for employee salaries, representing 25 percent of the total budget. Additionally, MVR 500 million has been set aside for salary harmonization.
While the fiscal strategy suggests a pay hike for civil servants next year, the finance ministry aims to equalize the salaries of all government employees by 2026.
