Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has said that the current government will put an end to the negligence towards Vilimalé and develop the island.

The minister criticized previous governments, citing that they neglected the development of the neighboring village island of Malé City.

While the minister made these remarks during the ceremony held on Wednesday, January 1, 2024, to inaugurate sea ambulance services between Malé City and Vilimalé, he added that the government's efforts for the island's development were not over with the introduction of the transportation service. He promised to make necessary changes in the future to the ambulances and the service for overall improvement.

"We are currently in the design phase of the 100-bed tertiary hospital, and without much delay, the people of Vilimalé would see these promises being realized," the minister said.

"[Vilimalé residents] rest assured, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government will bring an end to the age-old negligence towards Vilimalé."

The minister further pledged to continue efforts in health sector development in accordance with the government's health policies. He also assured consistent efforts towards improving services in the health sector.

"The cabinet ministers are committed to serving the public non-stop, and we request the public's support in this endeavor. No matter how strong our efforts are, our work will not improve without the participation of the public," he said.

The minister further added that it would streamline the government's processes if the public came forward with their needs.
