Afcons Infrastructure, the company overseeing the construction of the Thilamale' Bridge project announced that Vilimale' reef has been cleared.
The company said the reef was cleaned up yesterday despite ongoing bad weather.
Afcons said collection of debris began on August 28 despite the bad weather and rough seas.
Afcons said, the most appropriate machinery was used to remove the debris from the area and a joint survey with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is underway. The survey will identify the damage caused to the reef.
The Thilamale' bridge platform ran aground on August 16 after its anchor was cut off. Three people were injured in the incident and were treated at the Vilimale' hospital.
The foundation of the first pillar of the Thilamale' Bridge, was laid last month. Thilamale' Bridge project, connecting Male', Vilimale', Thilafuhi and Gulhifalhu is the incumbent government’s largest structural development project.
A large area of the Male' Industrial Village has been closed for the purpose.
