Pro-environment groups have voiced concerns over delays in removing the failed bridge platform on Vilimale' lagoon.

A week has elapsed since the platform, used for the development of the new bridge structure, crashed atop the house reef of the village island.

Meanwhile, several local associations have criticized the state for the delays and inadequate work on righting the platform.

A joint statement by 'Save the Beach Maldives' and Vilimale's own 'Vilijoali' read the constant crash of waves were slowly pushing the platform inwards, and further damaging the rocks beneath.

The associations further claimed the relative indifference of state bodies towards the environmental implications of the accident. They claim government bodies were absent from active efforts to remove the structure at earliest possibility.

Moreover, the associations urged relevant authorities to expedite the structure's removal.

"The constant damage on the reef is disheartening, one that cannot be reversed," the statement read, adding, "Our primary concern should be restricting future instances rather than exercising fines."

The associations further highlight presence of capable bodies to remove structure amid an ongoing large-scale infrastructural project. They claim necessary equipment machinery to right the structure should be at the disposal in presence of such development contractors.

Both 'Save the Beach Maldives' and 'Vilijoali' urge a thorough environmental impact assessment after the structure is removed, and share the findings with the public afterwards.

Meanwhile, a special resolution was put forward at the People's Majilis on Monday's parliamentary session regarding the matter.

The platform crashed on Vilimale's house reef after the structure's hosting anchor chain broke off. Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) confirms ongoing efforts to remove the platform.
