The Vietnamese tourism ministry is optimistic that it will be able to fully reopen its borders to foreign travellers on March 15, three months ahead of schedule. Visitor’s may not have to wait until summer to visit the country’s stunning beaches, vibrant towns, and ancient sites.

International passengers would be required to test negative for COVID-19 before departing for Vietnam and again upon arrival, according to the tourism ministry's reopening proposal. All tourists must present proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, with the last dose at least 14 days and not more than 1 year prior to date of entry. Or present a certificate of recovery from COVID-19. The time between hospital discharge and entry date must not exceed 6 months.

Travelers would also be compelled to quarantine on the first day of their trip and carry $10,000 in travel medical insurance coverage. According to a Vietnamese government official, the strategy "is in line with the government's new pandemic measures, which include reacting safely and flexibly, successfully controlling the virus."

Despite an upsurge in COVID-19 infections, Vietnam is pushing for reopening. According to the World Health Organisation. Officials are carefully following in the footsteps of other Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines and Thailand by gradually resuming visitor arrivals.

Early in the pandemic, Vietnam established one of the world's strictest travel rules in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19 within its borders. Vietnam will reopen its doors to tourists after a two year border closure due to the pandemic. Travelers from a number of countries, including the United States, will still require a visa to enter Vietnam.
