Despite securing the top spots in the group stage of the ongoing second division football tournament, neither New Radiant Sports Club nor Victory Sports Club will be promoted to the first division together this year.
In a match where Bisburu failed to appear, Victory Sports secured a win without even playing. With 12 points from four matches, Victory has guaranteed its position at the top of the group.
Bisburu ended the tournament without earning any points in all four of their matches. This marks the second instance of a team failing to appear for a match in the tournament, with Club Teenage forfeiting to New Radiant earlier.
The final group match is set between Lagoons Sports Club and Lorenzo Sports Club on Saturday. Lagoons currently holds six points from three games, while Lorenzo has three points.
In Group C, Club PK, positioned right behind, secured a 6-1 victory against Bisburu in their last match of the season, bringing them level on six points from four matches.
In the fourth minute of the match, Mohamed Mazin scored a goal for Bisburu. Five of PK's six goals were scored by Ali Munaz. Of the six goals scored, Ibrahim Shafraz (Shafley) scored the leading goal.
On Monday, New Radiant beat Tent Sports Club 3-1 in their final group match to secure top spot in the group.
Kofi Owusu put New Radiant ahead in the fourth minute before Ahmed Rilwan (relay) equalized for the Tent in two minutes. But 10 minutes later, Kofi put New Radiant ahead for the second time. With just six minutes left for the game to end, Kofi completed his hat-trick.
Both New Radiant and Victory have qualified for the knockout round as the top teams in the group, and in the quarter-finals, New Radiant will have to play the second-best of the third-placed teams.
Victory will take on Kuda Henveiru United, who finished second in Group A. Kuda Henveiru scored nine points after beating Mahibadhoo Sports Club 4-1 in their final Group A match. Mahibadhoo finished third in the group with six points.
If New Radiant and Victory win their quarter-final matches, both teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
From the second division, the two finalists will be promoted to the next Maldivian Premier League.
