President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on the people to ensure to uphold and strengthen the nation's honour and sovereignty.

The President made these remarks in a written statement he released today to commemorate Victory Day.

He expressed gratitude towards the national heroes who had protected the country against armed foreign troops on November 3, 1988, while commending their courage and strength.

Solih also highlighted the importance of putting national interests ahead of individual interests, calling on all, especially the younger generations, to take care to refrain from any actions that may result in compromising the independence or sovereignty of the Maldives.

He noted the importance of instilling national pride in the younger generations.

President Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu also expressed in a social media post today the need to educate the younger generations on the import of Victory Day.

In concluding the presidential address, Solih reflected on the situation of the Palestinians today, stating "in an era where advocacy for democracy and human rights is echoed across the globe...there are no other citizens more deprived of justice than Palestinian citizens".
