Maldives and Saudi Arabia on Friday discussed the possibility of revising the Saudi Visa Fee for Maldivians travelling to the Arab kingdom.

The discussion took place during a meeting between Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, on the sidelines of the ongoing 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

According to the President's Office, the meeting focussed on key upcoming undertakings in Maldives, including infrastructural and industrial development projects, multilateral partnerships, and stability and security concerns in regional and international commerce, trade and development.

President Solih expressed confidence that the commencement of direct flights between Riyadh, Jeddah and Male City will further enhance connectivity and benefit the people of both nations. The president and minister also spoke about the establishment of a Maldivian consulate in Jeddah, in addition to possibly revising the Saudi Visa Fee.

In turn, Dr Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf stated that he was pleased to see positive development in the bilateral relations between Maldives and Saudi Arabia. He added that he looked forward to building even stronger diplomatic ties between the two allies.
