An expatriate sustained injuries in a fire that erupted on Sunday in a speedboat docked at the harbour of Thilafushi, Kaafu Atoll.
The foreign labourer burned in the incident was transferred to capital Male' and is currently undergoing treatment Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
However, the hospital and the authorities have yet to confirm the extent of the victim's injuries.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) was able to control and put out the blaze within half an hour since the fire broke out in the speedboat docked at the harbour of the landfill island near the newly reclaimed area.
Spokesperson for MNDF Major Ibrahim Azim stated that the fire was reported at approximately 1150hrs and was extinguished by 1215hrs.
According to Azim, the cabin of the speedboat was severely burnt in the incident, adding that the launch docked next to it sustained damages as well.
