The clock tower in Malé City has been reinstated with a more contemporary design.

The design and development of the clock tower, as part of Malé City Council's strategic plan, began during the previous tenure of the current President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, when he served as the City's Mayor.

The tower was inaugurated at a special ceremony held on Saturday evening, November 18, by President Muizzu.

Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) developed the new clock tower as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in collaboration with Pioneer Maldives.

The modern clock tower is enacted in its original location, at the intersection connecting Fareedhee Magu, Orchid Magu, Fandiyaaru Magu and Funa Goalhi in Maafannu district.

The first clock tower was established in the intersection in 1990 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Maldives independence. The clock tower was developed by the Sri Lankan government to signify the strong bilateral relations between the country and the Maldives.

The new tower draws inspiration from the original clock tower, incorporating LED panels across the structure to project beautiful sceneries.

Besides this the call of Azan will be heard from the tower five times a day.
