Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has praised Adam Azim, the former Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) running for Malé City mayorship.

According to Faisal, Azim was one of the key pioneers behind several developmental initiatives implemented during the previous government led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While speaking at a campaign rally of Azim on Monday evening, December 18, Faisal highlighted the important achievements of the former MTCC Managing Director, who had been at the helm of Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) during the previous government as well.

"... President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration had carried out the most number of urban development projects to deliver basic necessities and progress for the citizens, ever in the history of the Maldives," Faisal said.

"Adam Azim was the main pioneer or 'captain' of majority of these initiatives led by the government."

The former Vice President said that citizens are aware and informed about what is right and wrong, and they cannot cast their votes for just anyone who contends.

During his tenure as the MWSC frontman, Azim expanded the company's services across the Greater Malé region. Under his leadership at MTCC, the company introduced the integrated ferry network, inclusive of bus transportation in Male' City and other major cities in the Maldives, Faisal said.

Faisal praised the former MTCC Managing Director, noting Azim's efforts were always focused on serving the public to his best capacity.

Speaking in this regard, the former VP said that his decision to endorse and back Azim for the mayoral election does not warrant any further questions due to his proven caliber.

The designation of Malé City mayor became vacant following Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's election as the President.

Other positions of the council became vacant when the members that filled them were appointed to various government roles.

The Elections Commission (EC) announced the mayoral by-election on January 13, 2024. A total of five candidates have announced their decision to run for mayorship.
