Vice President Faisal Naseem has asked the public and politicians to respect the majority's decision in the ongoing runoff elections on September 30.

After casting his ballot to the polling station at Jamaluddin School, VP Faisal spoke with the media present on site and requested from everyone to respect the final outcome.

"There's a lot of people, more than a 100,000 voters have come out to vote. We need to accept the decision made by the majority," Faisal said.

Speaking to media, the vice president said that his primary pledge was to uphold honesty and integrity, and said that he believed he fulfilled the promise by today.

He further said that he has consistently worked towards the betterment of the entire society without any discrimination, emphasizing that he has never favored any individual or group.

"I didn't favor anyone, whoever I came across, out on the road or anywhere, in the past five years, I have asked them if they had any opinion or feedback. I did my best to serve everyone to the best of my capabilities," Faisal added.

He said that after completing one term of five years, he does not believe a second term was necessary.

"I didn't serve with the hope of securing another five years," VP Faisal said.

He also said that his wish to become the running mate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was solely motivated from his wish to serve the public, and because he believed he could strengthen reform efforts.

Faisal said that he did not bother even if he could not secure a second term as VP.

He also pledged to serve the public regardless of the election outcome in the ongoing runoff polls.
