Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Thursday, met with United Nations Resident Coordinator to Maldives Catherine Haswell at the President's Office.
The discussions centred on avenues of strengthening social service provision across the country.
Coordinator Haswell reiterated the UN commitment on collaborating with the Maldivian government to bolster the social sector. She emphasized the importance of human resource development, building resilience and efficient coordination among stakeholders.
During the meeting, Vice President Faisal expressed gratitude for the UN Country Team’s continued support, particularly highlighting the assistance extended amid the Maldivian government's relief efforts for the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response, Coordinator Haswell commended state endeavours to control the virus and went on to discuss wider issues within the Maldivian health sector.
The UN Coordinator was accompanied by the UNICEF Resident Representative Dr Munir Safieldin and Vice President Faisal was accompanied by Special Adviser on Social Policy at the President’s Office Dr Mustafa Lutfi, Secretary of Foreign Relations Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen and Under Secretary Aishath Nazhath.
