Drugs and alcohol worth over MVR 5 million were seized, and 53 expatriates in violation of the law were detained by the joint task force established to combat drugs.
This marks the first time that the government of Dr. Mohammed Muizzu, who took office on November 17, has reportedly seized such a large amount of narcotics.
Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan stated in a post on X yesterday that a joint task force formed by four agencies had seized drugs and liquor worth MVR 5.5 million in operations conducted in the past two weeks.
The anti-drug task force comprises senior officials from the police, Immigration, Customs, and Correctional Services.
However, the location of where the drugs were seized and information about the operation have not been disclosed.
