Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has issued legal warning for Former President Abdulla Yameen for having participated in the protest by his supporters outside his residence.

Yameen was sentenced to five years in jail in 2019 as it was proven he had accepted bribe of MVR 1 million while leasing Gaafu Alifu Vodumula and then further laundering that money. When COVID-19 cases started to spike around April this year, he was moved to house arrest.

Against the terms of his house arrest, he had participated in the protest held by opposition PPM and PNC coalition on Friday. He had leaned outside the window of his home, Henveiru Dhoovehi, and waved both the national flag of Maldives and the flag of PPM as well.

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamedfulhu had said they would take action against Yameen who had acted against the terms of his release into residence. MCS media had said he has been adviced not to repeat such an action on Wednesday.

MCS did not reveal what further action they would take if Yameen would repeat such an action.
