Newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Wang Lixin said she has complete faith that the relationship between Maldives and China will continue to prosper.

In a written interview conducted by Mihaaru News, the ambassador noted the relationship between the two nations have been recently been advancing at a fast rate.

"Mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas within the Belt and Road framework has been successively elevated to higher level, bringing tangible benefits to our two countries and two peoples," Wang Lixin said.

She mentioned the benefits facilitated by the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and the social housing projects that had improved the living conditions in the Greater Male' Area as well.

Ambassador Wang also said that continued support from China to Maldives in its fight against the coronavirus also shows that the relationship between the two nations are strong and resilient. She said China would continue to provide Maldives with vaccines to help fight against COVID-19.

"I am quite satisfied with the current bilateral relations, and fully confident in their future development," she said.

"Looking into the future, China is ready to work closely with Maldives to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in all areas, increase people-to-people exchanges, and take the future-oriented all-round friendly and cooperative partnership between our two countries to a new level," ambassador said, answering a question about the expectations between Maldives and China's relationship for the future.

When asked about her first impressions of Maldives upon visiting, she had stated the nation was welcoming and she was proud to have been appointed as the ambassador to Maldives. As this was her first time visiting, she was captivated by the picturesque landscape, she said.

Maldives established diplomatic relations with China in 1972. Ambassador Wang Lixin said China was looking forward to celebrating 50 years of working together next year.
