Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Saturday enacted monitoring measures on three more resorts and a Sri Lankan vessel over suspected cases of COVID-19.
The agency stated that samples from a foreign national on Veligandu Island Resort and Spa, Cinnamon Hakuraa Hura Maldives and the vessel 'Alion' each, and from a Maldivian on Club Med Kanifinolhu, Holiday Village were taken for testing after they developed coronavirus-like symptoms.
The four individuals are currently under home-isolation, and the three resorts and vessel under lockdown as per protocol, until HPA receives their test results. HPA added that the Sri Lankan vessel arrived in Maldives on March 17.
HPA is also currently monitoring Adaaran Club Rannalhi and Centara Grand Island, along with Bodufulhadhoo Island, Alif Alif Atoll and the liveaboard 'Equator' over suspected coronavirus cases.
Maldives currently has 13 confirmed and 10 active cases of COVID-19. The country recorded its first two recoveries on Friday, and the third this Saturday.
No Maldivians have tested positive for the virus as of yet. So far, only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections with no local transmissions.
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 308,200 and claimed over 13,000 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 95,800 have recovered.
