Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has reported a significant improvement in international flight movements to the island nation.

According to the central bank's latest adjusted statistical review, the international flight movements to the Maldives observed a staggering 154 percent increment during the last quarter of 2021 when compared with the corresponding period in 2020.

In addition to this, international carrier movements increased by 16 percent for the review period when compared with the same quarter of 2019.

Flight movements increased mainly due to the increased volume of flight operations by major carriers to the island nation post pandemic's worst woes.

Some of the international airlines that scaled up their operations include Go Air, Indigo, Sri Lankan Airlines, British Airways, and Turkish Airlines.

Meanwhile, the resumption of AirAsia Thailand, Air Astana, Azur Air Ukraine, British Airways, GullivAir, Iberia, Neos, Ukraine Airlines, and Uzbekistan Airways led to the increase of flight movements as well.

The review quarter also observed the commencement of new airlines to the island nation which included LOT Polish Airlines, Nordwind Airlines, MIAT Mongolian Airlines, and the US-Bangla Airlines.
