Police on Sunday confirmed that they are launching a probe into a harassment case that was recently reported by a woman, apparently provoked over her choice in clothing.

This announcement comes amid a social media storm that arose after a woman was criticised for wearing masculine clothes. Per the infamous image, her choice of clothing was a modest, formal suit.

While ensuing online debate has been deeply divided, unknown perpetrators have gone forth and vandalised her former workplace, Meraki Coffee Roasters, late Saturday, leaving a threatening note.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the woman in question is the same individual.

Speaking at a press conference held at Iskandhar Koshi, Police spokesperson and Chief Inspector of Police Izmia Zahir stated that the issue has been brought to their attention.

"The police are currently looking into these cases. We assure you that, following the police assessment, we will provide protection for all who require it", she said.

Reportedly, the culprits behind the vandalism of Meraki were two people on a motorcycle, who threw a brick at the cafe's window. They allegedly threw a second one when the window did not break on first impact.

A threatening note composed in local Dhivehi Language, which warned against 'crossdressing', was also left by the perpetrators.
