Sporting Club City, the defending champions of the men's division in the Volleyball Association Cup, were eliminated from the tournament after losing in the first semi-final, while this year's new entrant, City Sports Club, secured its spot in the finals.
The group stage has concluded, and the semi-finals began yesterday. In the first match of the evening, defending champions City lost to the last runners-up Wamco from three sets.
Wamco secured the sets with scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 on the inner court of the Social Centre. Wamco's overseas player, Diego Mathews Kawalkante dos Santos, was named the man of the match.
As a result, Champions City exited the competition, and WAMCO now faces Club Urbanco in the upcoming semi-final. Club Urbanco had previously lost to Sports Club City in the second semi-final held on Sunday. The third semi-final between WAMCO and Urbanco is scheduled for 8:15 pm tonight.
Urbanco and Sports Club City also qualified for the Association Cup by participating in the preliminary round.
In the second semi-final, City defeated Urbanco 3-1. City claimed the first set 30-28 in the opening game of the match. Although Urbanco took the lead with a score of 25-22 in the second set, City won the next two sets 25-15, 25-20 to secure a direct place in the final.
City's foreign player, Omabek Zunusov, was named the player of the match in City's semi-final against Urbanco.
