These projects include water supply facilities on 22 islands, sewerage facilities on 2 islands, and combined water supply and sewerage facilities on 4 islands.
These projects were carried out under a Line of Credit facility of USD 800 million which was signed with India's EXIM Bank in 2019.
The completed projects were officially handed over in today's ceremony by Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer.
Highlighting that Maldives and India share a special connection where they come to the aid of each other whenever in need, Jaishankar stated that these projects alone would provide essential services to over 28,000 persons.
The water supply projects include installing Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, water storage tanks, water distribution pipelines, and water meter connections, as well as constructing administrative offices and implementing brine outfall systems. Additionally, solar panels were installed on the roof of the office to contribute to the power supply needed for RO plant operations, a statement by the President's Office revealed.
It further said that the sewerage system involves the laying of sewerage network pipelines, house connections, the construction of sewage pumping stations, and the implementation of a sea outfall system.
