Tourist arrivals increase by 2 percent in August

Ministry of Tourism's statistics show that there has been a 2.2 percent increase in tourist arrivals to Maldives in August, 2018.

According to the statistics, a total of 123,992 tourists arrived in Maldives in August. Furthermore, until August this year, the overall arrivals to Maldives amounts to 972,839 tourists.

The biggest contributor to the figures in August is China, with 33,472 Chinese tourists visiting Maldives. However, compared to the same period of time in 2017, there is a notable 0.8 percent decrease in arrivals.

The second highest number of arrivals was from England, welcoming 9,249 tourists in August. There has been an eight percent increase from 2017's statistics over the same period of time.

By the end of August, the overall occupancy for Maldivian resorts was at 62 percent. Maldives has 138 resorts with 30,341 beds.
