Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), on Sunday, revealed that an additional 21 persons were found infected with COVID19.
During the press conference held last night, the centre revealed that including recent numbers, till date, a total of 53 persons have tested positive for the virus.
Biyadhoo reported its first case of a COVID19 positive individual on January 1, 2021.
The person was confirmed positive after exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, following which they were brought to capital city Male’ for testing.
When the patient’s COVID19 status was determined, a further 15 contacts of the person had also been infected.
In recent weeks, following a surge in COVID cases reported in resorts, HEOC issued multiple warnings for visitors, locals, property managers and staff to remain equally vigilant in their respective protective measures.
The vulnerability of hospitality workers was particularly highlighted, as in most resorts, the employees reside in separate, close quarters where the disease is likely to spread with ease.
In order to curb the rising numbers of infected persons, HEOC has advised that all resort workers adhere strictly to quarantine guidelines when travelling within Maldives or from abroad, and urge all persons to seek medical attention should they experience any symptoms of illness as well as if one suspects having come into contact with a sick person.
