The Ministry intends for all students from Izzudheen School to be transferred to Dharumavantha School, located directly across the street, as there is currently enough space there. However, parents who prefer to transfer their children to schools other than Dharumavantha are also given the option.
Izzudheen School currently has about 600 students and began teaching grade 10 this year.
A Ministry spokesperson informed Mihaaru News that applications for transfers can be submitted from today through the "admission portal."
Izzudheen School management has notified parents that they can transfer their children to other schools now or at the beginning of the new term.
To assist with the transition, the Ministry of Education will cover the cost of uniforms for students transferring from Izzudheen School to other schools by issuing uniform vouchers.
Additionally, Izzudheen School Principal Nadhira Hassan will be transferred to Dharumavantha School, while Dharumavantha School Principal Abdulla Didi will move to the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in September.
The Ministry conducted an assessment last month with engineers from the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure following reports of a significant crack on the third floor of the Izzudheen School building. The assessment revealed that the building was severely damaged and could only be used long-term after major repairs.
The Izzudheen School building, constructed by the government thirty years ago for the former Male' English School (MES), later housed Mandhu College and Maldives National University (MNU) before becoming Izzudheen School in 2021. Sources indicate that the building was already in disrepair before this.
Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has stated that no other school will operate in the current building, and the property will not be allocated to anyone else.
