Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla has relocated to the official residence reserved for Parliament Speakers, Muraidhooge.

Parliament said today that the Speaker had moved into his residence yesterday, on the day that marked the 59th Independence Day of Maldives.

Abdul Raheem had moved into Muraidhooge after repairing the residence.

He had lived in his private residence after assuming the role of Speaker on May 30.

Abdul Raheem had also requested the parliament to bring some changes to the staff allocation at Muraidhooge. These proposed changes involved altering the name of one of the posts of those working in the residence, as well as requesting permission to create new posts after abolishing four.

This permit was issued by the parliament's General Purpose Committee last Wednesday.

Muraidhooge was the official residence for Parliament Speakers assigned by the State due to safety and security concerns following the May 6 bombing attack on Speaker Mohamed Nasheed in 2021.

Although Nasheed had resided in Muraidhooge following the attack, the succeeding Speaker, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s North Hithadhoo MP, Mohamed Aslam had not moved into the residence.
