The Parliamentary Committee on Government Oversight, on Wednesday, reapproved Dr Abdulla Mausoom's appointment as Minister of Tourism, after he took the oath for the position for a second time.

Although Mausoom's appointment was approved by the committee last week and forwarded to the parliament floor, he was instructed to retake his oath after resigning from the position of Managing Director at a private company, which he was filling at the time.

The parliament advised for the resignation, as the law prohibits ministers from taking part in business activities.

Until Mausoom's appointment was finalised, the parliament extended its sessions before going into recess as well.

Prior to the ministerial appointment, the Vice President of Jumhooree Party (JP) filled the position of the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore.

He was appointed as the tourism minister after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sacked the former minister Ali Waheed over allegations of sexual assault.
