Official system in place to guarantee civil rights for Maldivians

Government puts in place a system where official complaints and grievances regarding civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution can be submitted.

The new President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu set up “Office for Civil Rights” under the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). The office said yesterday that they will look into complaints related to the protection of civil rights guaranteed to everyone by the constitution and laws, as well as discrimination in securing those rights.

According to the Attorney General's Office, action will be taken based on complaints made by people regarding denial of civil rights.

Complaints regarding the denied rights will be undertaken as per “Guidelines on filing complaints with the Office for Civil Rights”.

The President's Office said, it is for the Civil Rights Office to ensure that citizens enjoy all of their civil rights.

It is the mandate of the office to review and advise the efforts of the government agencies to protect and protect the civil rights of the citizens in the delivery of services to the people.
