Fenaka Corporation has said today that it is facing difficulties in provision of supply water because the rate of consumption of water in the connected islands of Addu is now significantly higher than the rate of production.

In a press release issued today, Fenaka said that with the increasing population of Addu, the consumption rate of the water supplied by the company is rising every day.

They stated that the rate of consumption is currently higher than the production rate from the presently installed plant.

Fenaka claims that the water supply services in Addu have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance and development of equipment in the water supply system within the past five years.

They added that the government has initiated the signing of a contract between the Planning Ministry and Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to upgrade the water system in Addu.

Fenaka stated that the completion of the project would bring a permanent solution to the issues faced, adding that the company is working on ensuring that the services are provided uninterrupted in the meantime.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar stated yesterday that the Council often receives complaints from residents regarding intermittent interruption of services and low pressure in water supply. He said that this situation has been ongoing for approximately a month now.

The government signed the contract with MWSC on April 13.
