Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid discussed areas of further cooperation between Maldives and the United States, with the US Department of Treasury and the USAID on Wednesday.
According to the foreign ministry, the discussions held in Washington DC identified areas of further cooperation on capacity building, financial sector management and human resource development.
The foreign minister is currently on a four-day official visit to the US. In addition to the Department of Treasury and USAID, he discussed Indian Ocean security with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Shahid will also address the United Nations' Security Council on the issue of climate change and security.
The foreign minister is accompanied on his trip by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the United States, Ali Naseer Mohamed, and officials of the Maldives Mission in New York.
