Indications that FIFA will not accept the Football Association of Maldives (FAM)'s extraordinary congress held in February have surfaced.

A delegation consisting of FIFA representatives had visited the Maldives last month and convened with administrative stakeholders involved within the football industry. The delegation had met with FAM, football clubs, senior officials of the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation as well as the Commissioner of Sports and the Maldives Olympics Committee.

Except for the clubs, FIFA had met separately with the remaining three organizations and officials. However, FIFA also engaged in discussions with football clubs, including those excluded from the extraordinary congress held in February.

An official informed about matters related to the FIFA delegation stated that FIFA has indicated they will object to the extraordinary congress held by FAM based on the information presented by the clubs.

"Considering the procedural issues of the congress highlighted by the clubs, these people [the FIFA delegation] also believe that the congress was not held properly," said the official.

Citing actions taken by FIFA following the congress, a senior football official stated that it is evident that the congress cannot be accepted based of FIFA's decisions.

"FIFA has not clearly revealed their stance on the congress. I don't think they will explicitly state whether they accept or reject it outright," he said.

"But FIFA may issue an order to hold the congress again. There are indications of this due to the order to halt the elections announced following the establishment of electoral committees during the congress. We can see indications that they may not accept the congress or may order another congress based on this."

If FIFA decides to object to the congress, the committees established during the congress will also become invalid. Club Valencia was suspended due to accusations of its leadership change by the disciplinary committee formed during the congress.

"The moment an order comes to hold the congress again or if FIFA makes another decision regarding the congress, Valencia's suspension will automatically be lifted. This is because the committee established by the congress will be invalid. Any decision made by an invalid committee will also be invalid," said the senior official.

Club Valencia had also filed an appeal regarding the case. However, the operations of the appeal committee, which was also passed and established during the congress amidst conflict, remain halted.
