USA donates an additional 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccine to Maldives.
The vaccines were donated to Maldives through the COVAX facility. United States said the vaccines were to be used as booster shots for the new Covid variant.
Including previous donations of Covid vaccines, Maldives has received a total of 439,920 vaccines from US.
The US Mission to Maldives had said in a statement released on Saturday that US Agency for International Development (USAID) will be supporting Maldives with both vaccine distribution to the atolls and training health workers as well.
The US donated USD 7 million in aid and 60 ventilators to the Maldives in March 2020 once the Covid-19 pandemic was declared. The US has provided economic and financial assistance to the Maldives in strengthening clinical care services, expanding social protection services, and providing economic and financial assistance.
The country has pledged to donate a total of 1.2 billion doses of the vaccine to different countries. By the end of April this year, 533 million doses of the vaccine had been supplied to 115 countries.
