VP Faisal holds discussions on improving rehabilitation services for detainees

Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Thursday, conducted discussions regarding the improvement of rehabilitation services provided to detained victims of narcotics abuse.

Held at the President's Office, the discussion was intended to identify solutions for major challenges within the treatment system.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Faisal stressed the importance of rehabilitating victims of narcotics abuse, particularly children and adolescents, and reintegrating them into society.

He went on to highlight several issues within the system and propose solutions to facilitate swift rehabilitation and reintegration services.

Additionally, the Vice President inquired on the progress of the 'Drug Offenders Remand Centre', which is scheduled and budgeted for establishment in 2021. He noted that the centre would offer comprehensive rehabilitation and reintegration services once it was operationalised.

Government reintegration programmes include employment and training opportunities from certain state organisations.

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi, Undersecretary at the President's Office Dr Abdul Malik and Chairman of the National Drug Agency Board Hassan Hameed joined Vice President Faisal Naseem for the discussion. Senior officers of the Maldives Police Service and gender ministry also attended the meeting.
