Health Protection Agency (HPA) has changed the travel regulations to accept PCR tests done 96 hours prior to entering Maldives.

With this change all inbound travellers, including Maldivian, are required to submit a negative PCR test done four days before entering Maldives.

According to HPA regulations, travelers from South Asian countries had to do their PCR test 72 hours prior to entering Maldives. With this change however, travelers from that region can also enter Maldives with PCR tests done four days earlier.

Only people with PCR negative results can enter Maldives.

Maldives opened its borders to South Asian countries on July 15, after closing it off for nearly two months. The border was closed as a precautionary method when COVID cases started to surge in the region.

Maldives also saw a surge in COVID cases in late April, following the Local Council Election held on April 10. However with a decrease in COVID cases, Maldives has eased many of the restrictions placed, such as eliminating mandatory quarantine for fully vaccinated people entering Maldives with the work VISA.
