COVID-19: Death toll reaches 218

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the 218th COVID-19 fatality in Maldives on Wednesday evening.

The agency said a 82 year old Maldivian man brought to Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) was declared dead on Wednesday morning.

A 91 year old Maldivian woman admitted in Baa COVID Management Facility had passed away shortly after around one in the morning on Tuesday as well.

This increases number of COVID fatalities this month to seven.

In May, Maldives saw the the highest recorded COVID deaths, at 88. Fifty people had died from COVID-19 in June.

Following a decrease in COVID cases following the surge that started in late April, the restrictions in place to control the spread was eased in July. As of Wednesday, an additional 144 people recorded positive for COVID, while 36 cases were from Greater Male' Area. Currently there are 2,571 active cases, out of which 12 people are admitted in hospitals.

So far there has been 76,332 recorded cases of COVID-19 in Maldives.
