The United States' White House National Security Council (NSC) has expressed its wish to co-operate with Maldives during the presidency of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who recently won the presidential election.

The NSC, responsible for advising and assisting the President of the United States regarding national security, foreign policy and military matters, posted a tweet on the NSC official twitter account congratulating President-Elect Solih on his electoral victory.

In addition to congratulating the president-elect, the tweet stated that USA was prepared to work with Maldives on strengthening democracy and ensuring peace during Solih’s five-year term in office.

Both the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi have expressed their desire to build and maintain diplomatic ties with Maldives in the upcoming years.

Several other nations, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, have congratulated Solih after he won the presidential election with a lead of more than 38,000 votes over incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
