The State has decided to appeal at Supreme Court the High Court's decision that the accused in the murder of Nadheem Ibrahim cannot be held in remand until the completion of the judicial hearings of the appeal case.

Nadheem Ibrahim was murdered in July, 2017, stabbed by a group of persons while he was sitting inside the Terminal Cafe' in Male'.

The four suspects charged with his murder are Mohamed Mafaz of Galolhu Shaaraaz, Ali Nifaz of Vidhaathari in Thundi, Laamu Atoll Gan, Hussain Samih of Samantha, Raa Atoll Innamaadhoo, and Mohamed Karam Suhail of Havaas in Gaafu Alif Atoll Gemanafushi.

The Criminal Court ruled last year that there is not sufficient evidence to convict the four. The State has since appealed the case at at the High Court.

The State sought an order from the High Court to place the four on remand in custody until the completion of this appeal case. The State claims that it sought remand as the accused may be found guilty at the end of the appeal process.

However, High Court declined from issuing the remand, ruling that the State had not proven sufficiently a need to place the suspects on remand until the end of the appeal process.

An official from the Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that the ruling will be appealed at the Supreme Court.
