The Maldives National University (MNU) will hold a march to celebrate the 50th anniversary of tourism in Maldives.

The university will hold a tourism jubilee walk on the 19th of this month from 4 to 6 p.m.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, October 2 at MNU, the Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS), Zeenath Solih, said many people working in the tourism sector and other stakeholders will also participate in the march.

"twenty one schools in the Male' area will participate. We hope that children who are interested in this field will participate in the march. Many school students are already expressing their interest," Zeenath said.

The walk is also an important objective to get the views of students interested in tourism and share the opportunities and ways forward in the field.

According to Zeenath, Colleges and universities as well as many associations in the tourism sector will also be invited to participate in the march.

“We want industry partners, especially MNU FHTS alumni, to participate,” she said.

Zeenath said a special link will be opened to register to participate in the march. When registering, they will look at the position of those who have studied at MNU and are currently working in the tourism sector.

FHTS lecturer Hashma Adam said the participants will be told about the inception of tourism in Maldives and the changes that have taken place in the field.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism Fatimath Nilfa said she was pleased to hold such a big event. It is important to make the society aware of tourism and promote the sector, she said.
