Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday revealed that the Indian government granted MVR 1.5 million to install street lights in Kolhufushi island, Meemu Atoll.
According to a statement released by Foreign Ministry, the street lights were provided through India's aid scheme to Maldives. The governments made an agreement for this aid during Indian External Affairs Ministers visit to Maldives in March 2019.
The agreement aims to grant assistance to socio-economic development projects across Maldives.
Foreign Ministry stated that installing proper street light systems in the island is essential in order to to provide a safe environment for the people of Kolhufushi, particularly for women and the elderly.
