Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid departed to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday following his official trip to India.

Minister Shahid tweeted saying he will be “leaving Delhi to Abu Dhabi after a very successful visit.” India and Maldives have renewed their relationship on good terms before the minister left to Abu Dhabi on an official trip. However, the details regarding his trip to Abu Dhabi has not been revealed.

The infrastructure of Maafaru International Aiport has been subsidized by U.A.E’s Abu Dhabi fund that has donated USD 60 million (MVR 927 million) towards the project.

Maafaru International Airport has been designed with the development of a transit hotel and a resort as well. It has a very modern blueprint with the parking capacity for six jets. A test flight was landed on the airport on August 14, 2017. Furthermore, more flights have been scheduled to land in the newly created airport later this year.

In addition, the renovated Velana International Airport will hold capacity of 7 million people while the cost of the new terminal has reached above MVR 670 million, of which MVR 188.6 million were supported by the Abu Dhabi fund.
