The preliminary list of all shortlisted students for tertiary loan slots have been announced.

Earlier, Ministry of Higher Education announced a total of 720 loan opportunities for students aspiring for tertiary educational programs.

On Monday, 16th May 2022, the ministry announced a total of 393 students shortlisted for loan opportunities.

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that a total of 1,000 students applied for several different higher education programs upon announcement earlier on February 2022.

Due to the number of student applications exceeding the available loan slots, several of these students were disqualified with the most eligible of the applicants being selected.

Moreover, due to ineligibility a total of 327 slots are vacant from the total available slots.

Meanwhile, the ministry claimed that complaints related to the preliminary list can be lodged until 24th May.

Furthermore, the ministry confirmed the final list of all the shortlisted students for loan programs will be announced on 05th June 2022.

During the most recently announced loan opportunities for tertiary programs, the highest number applicants were submitted for pilot programs which had 10 available slots while 252 students applied and out of the total 240 students were disqualified.

A total of 25 slots were available for MBBS programs, with 129 applicants submitting forms while 104 out of the total were disqualified.

Loans were announced for training needs areas, however a total of 29 students submitted forms for areas that were excluded from training needs while 35 submissions did not meet the acceptance criteria of Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA), while 37 applicants had not submitted their O'Level/A'Level standard credentials.

The minister had highlighted on these issues as the reasons why several students faced disqualification.

At the moment a total of 9,054 students are pursuing various higher education programs through loan opportunities provided by the Maldives government.
