The previous administration rebranded the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as 'Urbanco,' but the official name has been reverted back to HDC.
The Urbanco logo, previously installed on the HDC office building, was removed last night and officially replaced with the HDC logo this morning.
An HDC official stated, "Urbanco was introduced, but all official documents continued to use HDC. The HDC name remains unchanged, legally. Using both names would create confusion for the public."
At a previous campaign rally, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has criticized the previous government for not fulfilling legal requirements for the Urbanco name transition, saying it was 'done in name alone'.
Urbanco was introduced during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration on April 1 last year. The rebranding aimed to expand the company's services and was presented as a step towards fulfilling people's dreams.
Established in 2001 to address the housing crisis in Malé, HDC oversees developments in Hulhumalé, Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, and Kuda Giri. Urbanco's branding has now been officially replaced with HDC's original name.
