Maldives Police Service has said it did not receive any reports of a stabbing incident against a 14-year-old, despite rumors.
Rumors circulated on social media claiming a 14-year-old teenager was stabbed during a commotion at the Centro Mall's lift on Saturday evening, December 9.
Police on Sunday, December 10, said officers were interrogating people from the site to check for validity of the reports.
Local authorities said that they were reviewing hospital and clinic records to verify if they had treated victims of stabbings falling within the specified age category. The police also confirmed their efforts to examine CCTV footage from the reported incident venue.
Police also that it did not discover any teenagers being treated for stab wounds at Hulhumalé Hospital so far.
The authorities requested public assistance in the case, and provide any information pertaining to the incident by contacting 3322111.
The incident has come following reports of serial gang altercations reported from both Addu and Malé cities.
Local law enforcement have strengthened patrolling and security in the cities following the assaults.
