Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid departs to India on Wednesday as the President-elect of United Nation's (UN) General Assemblt.
Foreign Ministry has stated that Minister Shahid was making this trip to India as the President-elect on their request.
Shahid will be meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this trip. He will also be meeting Indian Minister for External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in addition to the Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla while in India.
On this trip, Minister Shahid will give a special lecture in the Indian Council of World Affairs, Sapru House on Friday.
Parliament member and representative of the Henveyru Dhekunu constituency Hussain Shaheem is also joining Minister Shahid along with trip.
Minister Shahid was elected as the President of the UN's General Assembly on July 7, in New York, USA. He won 141 of the 191 votes cast in the election that day. This was the first time a Maldivian was elected for this post.
