Family alleges foul play in Indian expat's death in Maldives

The relatives of an Indian expat have filed a police complaint alleging foul play in his death in the Maldives, according to India media reports.

Times of India reported that the 30 year old man from Ilangaicheri near Senthurai had been working in the Maldives for the past 10 months.

According to the report, on August 27, the expat identified as Raja spoke to his wife and family members over phone from Maldives his family received the news of his death from his company a few hours later.

Raja's body was brought to Ariyalur on August 30 where family members refused to accept his body and lodged a complaint with the Senthurai police alleging foul play in his death.

Based on the complaint, the body was sent to the Ariyalur government hospital for postmortem where further investigations are underway, the report said.

It is unclear whether the case has been filed with the local police.
