The Education Ministry has decided to implement two sessions for Salahuddin School in Hulhumalé 2 for the upcoming academic year.

Since its establishment in August 2022, Salahuddin School has been witnessing a steady increase in enrollment, paralleling the population growth of Hulhumalé 2.

Currently, the school caters to 2,053 students.

Principal Nasiha Idhrees of Salahuddin School confirmed today that the ministry has officially notified them of the transition to two sessions for the next academic year.

She expressed that this decision would provide an opportunity for many new students to join the school.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu shared on Facebook that there has been a significant demand for school seats in the second phase of Hulhumalé 2. Over 800 requests have been received so far, with expectations of surpassing 1,000 by the end of the academic year.

"We have received over 800 requests so far for school seats in the second phase. By the end of this academic year, the number is expected to go up to over 1,000," the minister wrote.

The minister assured that the students living in Hulhumalé 2 would be provided opportunities by changing the teaching sessions to two. This will be a big relief for the children and parents living in the area, said Dr Ismail Shafeeu.

Salahuddin School has a seating capacity of 1,700. There are a total of 60 classrooms and four classes in the school have been dedicated for inclusive education.

With this government's plans to make changes to the new academic year, the current academic year 2023 will end next month. The academic session 2024 will begin on May 26.
