The application window to request aid for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) under the Aasandha Scheme opened yesterday.

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), which manages all health insurance schemes of the State, has announced that the window to request the State's aid for IVF and IUI treatments through the Aasandha Insurance scheme has been opened. This assistance is available for individuals who face challenges in covering these treatments themselves.

The announcement states that individuals seeking aid for IVF and IUI treatments through Aasandha insurance will be able to submit their application forms until May 15th.

NSPA announced that aid for undergoing IVF treatments will be offered to 100 eligible applicants with the highest points.

NSPA added that IVF treatments can be sought through the Aasandha scheme both in Maldives and abroad.

IVF can be performed three times under the Aasandha insurance scheme. The agency formulated a strong policy and disclosed it to the public last month.

Policy on requirements for IVF treatment

- Couple seeking aid must be married for three years

- Applicants must have a natural health issue rendering the couple infertile or must have been unsuccessful in conceiving for the past three years due to unidentified reasons. They must be guided by the advice of a related specialist indicating that IVF is the best course of action.

- Women must be between 30-41 years of age at the time of seeking aid. Men applying for assistance must be under 55 years. However, if the wife is above 25 years and a related specialist has advised that this treatment is the best course of action, alongside approving all the aforementioned conditions, aid for the treatment may be sought.

- The woman must have a body mass index of 19-30 at the time of seeking aid

- The couple must cease all forms of smoking 6 months prior to seeking aid

- Must not have undergone IVF treatment three time previously under personal expense

CEO of NSPA, Heena Waleed, had previously shared with Mihaaru News that this policy was created with consideration to the procedures followed in foreign countries that practice it and assured that technical experts within the country and fertility support communities were fully involved in the development of the policy.

Offering treatment through Aasandha insurance to deprived individuals who are unable to conceive naturally is a pledge within President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 100-day roadmap.
