Five pledges of Maldives at 'Human Rights 75'

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef delivered a statement of pledges on behalf of the Maldives Government on Monday, December 11, at the Pledging Tree session of the 'Human Rights 75' summit held in Geneva.

The Maldives made five pledges at the event, and the Vice President reiterated the current government's commitment to strengthen efforts in capacity building to foster a culture of human rights in the country.

The pledges of the Maldives, delivered by the Vice President include;

1. Continuing efforts to strengthen the domestic normative framework and align it with international obligations

2. Improving the Maldives' treaty reporting capabilities and constructively engaging with human rights mechanisms

3. Encourage equal participation of women and girls in all aspects of political and public life.

4. Fortify efforts to improve the implementation of national child protection mechanism and enable access to inclusive education

5. Enhancing the climate resilience to protect the Maldivian way of life and the country's future

More than 100 countries are making pledges at the event organized by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The pledges are made as part of a campaign to encourage meaningful actions by the member states.

The Vice President is on an official visit to take part in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75) in Geneva, Switzerland held from December 11 to 12.
